"Your brand is all about who you are and what people think and how they would describe you to somebody else," Kim explained. "It doesn't happen all by itself. What a brand needs to do is you have to actually create it and nurture it and transform it into something meaningful and recognizable."
This process involves getting clear on your core values, your unique strengths and offerings, and the feelings you want to evoke in your audience. Kim uses a variety of exercises and questions to help her clients uncover this authentic brand identity.
Once you've defined your brand, the next step is to bring it to life through your branding elements — your logo, website, visuals, messaging, and more.
"Your branding is how you're going to communicate what your brand is to your ideal clients," Kim shared. "One has to come before the other. They aren't separate elements. They're both necessary, but I will tell you you can start a business without your branding finished, you can, but you can't start a business without knowing who you are as a brand."
Effective branding allows you to create a cohesive, recognizable presence that resonates with your target audience. It's the visual and verbal expression of your brand identity.
Finally, Kim emphasized the importance of fostering human-to-human (H2H) connections in your business, rather than just focusing on traditional B2B or B2C models.
"As a small business owner, you can really play on this and make sure that people feel like they are noticed, that you know them, that they know you, that there's an actual person in your business," Kim explained.
